About Night Owl Speech & Learning

A Thoughtful, Individualized Approach to Learning Support

Led by a licensed speech-language pathologist with a focus on literacy, language, and academic development.

Night Owl Speech & Learning was created to support students who need a more individualized approach to learning.

Many of the students seen here are capable and working hard, but something isn’t quite coming together in reading, writing, math, or school routines. In these cases, progress often requires looking beyond the surface of academic skills.

This work brings together speech-language expertise and structured academic support to better understand how each student learns—and what will help them move forward.

Meet Brooke Crowson, MS, CCC-SLP

Brooke is a licensed speech-language pathologist with experience supporting students across school settings, private practice, and individualized learning environments.

Her work has focused on students with a wide range of learning profiles, including language-based learning differences, literacy challenges, and executive functioning needs. Over time, this has led to a more integrated approach—one that considers both academic skills and the underlying processes that support them.

Brooke has advanced training in evidence-based literacy instruction, including structured approaches to reading such as Orton-Gillingham-based methodologies. She combines this with her background in speech-language development to support not only reading, but also writing, comprehension, and the language skills that influence learning across subjects.

Her experience working in different settings has shaped a flexible, individualized approach. Rather than relying on a single program, she designs support plans that reflect how each student processes, understands, and applies information.

At the core of her work is the belief that meaningful progress comes from understanding the learner, not just the skill being taught.

Approach

How Support is Designed

No two students are exactly alike, and as such, support is not built around a single program or fixed structure.

Instead, each plan is developed based on:

  • How the student processes and understands information

  • Their strengths and areas of challenge

  • What is most likely to support meaningful progress

Sessions may include a combination of:

  • Explicit, structured instruction

  • Language-based support

  • Strategies for organization, attention, and follow-through

The goal is to create a plan that is effective and sustainable for the student, as well as build their ability and confidence to use learnings outside of our sessions.

Philosophy

A Strengths-Based, Child-Centered Approach

Students are not defined by their areas of difficulty.

Many are thoughtful, capable, and bring strengths that are not always reflected in their academic performance.

Support is designed to build on those strengths while addressing the areas that feel more difficult—so that students can develop skills, confidence, and a more positive relationship with learning over time.

Collaboration & Working Together

When helpful, collaboration with families, educators, and other professionals is encouraged.

This allows support to be more consistent across environments and ensures that everyone involved has a clear understanding of what is working and how to move forward.
